Sub-project 2 (TP 2) aims at advancing a semi-permanent mobile system and subsequent GIS-based and land use related empirical-statistical modelling. The URBMOBI sensor currently measures position, air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation at high temporal resolution. Small and low-cost sensors for air quality parameters will be integrated into URBMOBI 3.0. Existing Land Use Regression Models (LURM) and Neural Network Models (NNM) will be advanced to evaluate if LURM or NNM provide competitive approaches for real-time low-cost modelling of spatial fields of basic atmospheric and air quality variables and to test evaluation procedures for modelled spatial fields through measurements.
TP 2 will take part in four intense observation periods (IOP) in Berlin to provide a specific data set that is complementary to the measurements carried out by other TPs, and by own additionally available devices. URBMOBI is also tested on the octocopter of TP 12, and run concurrently with other instruments on vehicles of TP 11, TP 5 and TP 9 to allow for parallel measurements. URBMOBI will be operated in Stuttgart on a rack railway jointly with and in parallel with measurements of TP 8.
LURM and NNM will be calibrated based on IOP data together with TP 4. Input layers will be modelled with ENVI-met and KLAM21. The concepts and testing procedures developed from this approach will be provided to the data-warehouse.
TP 2 contributes to model validation studies together with partners from Modules A and B, and is also involved in applications (Modules B and C).
