High resolution data of relevant trace species by means of mobile lab investigations for model development as well as for model validation (MOBILAB)
TP 6 develops a measurement strategy for the chemical components to make optimum use of mobile measurements together with fixed station monitoring networks (Berlin, Stuttgart). Implementation of nitrous gases- and ozone-inter-calibrations have to take place prior to the intense observation periods (IOP) to ensure data quality. New developed semiconductor sensors have to be tested to be free from interferences under real outdoor air conditions by detailed comparative measurements with MOBILAB equipment in Berlin.
TP 6 will participate in the IOPs with the mobile lab of Forschungszentrum Jülich for measurements of nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, particle distribution, particle counting, ammonia, carbon dioxide, radiation, humidity and temperature. Episodic measurements of volatile organic compounds are planned for IOPs II and IV (summer period) in order to quantify the summertime biogenic Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA) formation in context with urban greening.
TP 6 will also quantify the regional background of nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ammonia, ozone and particulate matter in the windward region of the city of interest, study the spatial representativeness of fixed measurement stations and determine trace species concentration gradients for selected urban areas. Tools will be developed and tested to distinguish between local background and direct (exhaust) emissions. Summertime hydroxide ion-SOA generation and ozon-SOA generation will be modelled using a detailed photochemical box model.
