New Research Project: "Open Urban Climate Observatory Berlin for environmental research and applications"
In order to better capture the spatially highly differentiated urban climatic variables (for example, air temperature and heavy rainfall), the new
project Open Urban Climate Observatory
Berlin for environmental research and applications
implements weather observations according to the Citizen Science concept in an existing scientific
measurement network, the Urban Climate Observatory Berlin (UCO Berlin).
This project is funded by the
Berlin University Alliance
Project participants at the department are
Dr. Fred Meier
Dr. Marco Otto

The "Central Europe Refined analysis" is now available
The Central Europe Refined analysis version 1 (CER v1) is a gridded atmospheric data set,
created by dynamical downscaling of ERA-Interim reanalysis data using the Weather Research
and Forecasting Model (WRF). The data set covers all of Europe (30 km resolution), Germany
(10 km) and the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg (2 km) with its three domains. Currently,
the data set covers the period 2001-2016 and will be extended until summer 2019.
Further details concerning the data:
A New Version of the High Asian Refined Analysis (HAR v2) is Now Available
The High Asian Refined analysis version 2 (HAR v2) is generated by dynamical downscaling of ERA5
reanalysis data using the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF). Compared to the old version
(HAR), HAR v2 has an extended 10 km domain and a longer temporal coverage. It will be extended back
to 1979 and will be continuously updated in the future. Currently, HAR v2 is available from 2004 to 2018.
